Our Organic Black Tea Broken originates from our tea estate in the eastern region of Nepal, nestled in the foothills of Mt. Kanchanjangha, the third-highest mountain in the world. Our close-knit community is ideally located between Illam, Nepal's most renowned tea-growing region, to the north, and the western borders of Darjeeling, India, capturing the benefits of both regions. Grown at altitudes of 1300 to 1800 meters (4,200 to 6,000 feet), this tea thrives in the pristine Himalayan climate, resulting in its uniquely distinctive and fragrant flavor profile.

Black Tea (Camellia Sinensis)

Broken Black tea leaves are larger fragments that result from the intentional breaking of tea leaves during the processing of black tea. These fragments are not whole leaves but remain relatively larger in size and structure. During the production process, these broken black tea leaves undergo a series of processes, including withering, oxidation, rolling, and drying like any other black tea leaves. After rolling, the leaves are broken into smaller pieces, which allows them to infuse more quickly when it is brewed, creating a richer and flavorful tea liquor.

The broken tea is then graded based on the size of the fragments. Because broken tea leaves are more uniform in size and retain some of the leaf structure, they are considered a higher grade than finer particles like the tea dust.

Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd (KTERC). KTERC is Nepal’s first certified organic tea garden. Mr. Deepak Prakash Baskota founded it in 1984 with the goal of eliminating poverty in his neighborhood. It continues to be a model social enterprise that operates on cooperative infrastructure and prioritizes people and the environment over profit.
