White Prakash is a delicate white tea that honors Mr. Deepak Prakash Banskota, the father of our founder Nishchal. The first tea garden in Phidim was planted in 1984 by Deepak Prakash. Later on, he founded our partner farm, the Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center, where all of our organic loose-leaf teas are grown and made by hand.

We created this speciality white tea, with its nuanced and fulfilling flavors, in his honor. This tea, which has received multiple accolades and is a favorite for all seasons, features overtones of buttercream, vanilla, and fresh floral aromas. White Prakash also brews into a great cold brew for the sweltering summer months.

White Tea (Camellia Sinensis)

Because it is not produced using the same techniques as regular white tea, this is not your average delicate bulk white tea. Typically, in the spring and summer (first and second flushes, respectively), the fragile single leaf and a bud are picked by hand. Our White Prakash tea is distinct and exceptional because it goes through a small processing, unlike other bulk white teas that receive very little processing. As you read on, you'll discover why some people even refer to this tea as silvery oolong.

Depending on the weather, the tea leaves are expected to naturally wither over a few hours. The leaves are fed into a rolling machine with low to medium pressure once they have properly softened. The tea leaves release some of their essential oils after just 8 to 10 minutes of rolling, filling the space with an exceptionally fragrant, fresh flowery scent. This is immediately caught to ensure that the drying process preserves all of the fresh scent.

Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd (KTERC), Nepal’s first certified organic tea garden, was founded in 1984 by Mr. Deepak Prakash Baskota with the mission to eliminate poverty in his neighborhood. Located in the eastern region of Nepal, nestled in the foothills of Mt. Kanchanjangha, the third-highest mountain in the world, our tea estate thrives.

Our modest community sits between the renowned tea-growing region of Illam to the north and the western borders of Darjeeling, India, benefiting from the best of both worlds. At altitudes between 1300 and 1800 meters (4,200 and 6,000 feet), the estate enjoys pristine Himalayan climate conditions, producing incredibly distinctive and fragrant teas. KTERC remains a model social enterprise, operating on cooperative infrastructure and prioritizing people and the environment over profit.
