Hinduism's elephant-headed god Ganesha (Ganesh) is revered for his ability to provide luck, success, and wisdom. In each Hindu event, he is also expected to be worshipped first (a benediction from his father, Lord Shiva). In light of the tea's name and significance, we dedicate this tea to Rita Baskota, our tea garden's first and youngest supervisor. She is not only incredibly kind and modest, much like our organic loose-leaf green tea, but she also serves as an inspiration for younger women who want to work in management and supervision in the tea industry.

Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis)

Our Ganesha Green Tea is made in a straightforward yet exquisite manner. First, only the two finest leaves and a bud are removed from each tea bush by hand. To minimize the amount of time the tea leaves can react with oxygen, the freshly harvested green leaves are then brought as quickly as possible to the processing factory. To get ready for the enzymer machine, the leaves are briefly placed in withering troughs. The tea leaves lose moisture because of the dry heat from the enzymer, which also aids in slowing down the oxidation process that would otherwise cause the green tea bulk leaves to become brown or black tea. This method also softens the look of the organic loose-leaf green tea and enhances its nutty and smokey flavors.

After that, the soft, withered leaves are briefly rolled to assist the shape of the tea and release all of its essential oils. Although green teas often do not undergo oxidation, we let the rolled teas sit and cool for 15 to 20 minutes before proceeding with the final drying step. The buttery, toasted tastes that characterize this organic green tea bulk are enhanced by briefly letting it settle. Tea makers use their decades of experience to admirably balance and enhance the flavor of the tea.

Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd (KTERC), Nepal’s first certified organic tea garden, was founded in 1984 by Mr. Deepak Prakash Baskota with the mission to eliminate poverty in his neighborhood. Located in the eastern region of Nepal, nestled in the foothills of Mt. Kanchanjangha, the third-highest mountain in the world, our tea estate thrives.

Our modest community sits between the renowned tea-growing region of Illam to the north and the western borders of Darjeeling, India, benefiting from the best of both worlds. At altitudes between 1300 and 1800 meters (4,200 and 6,000 feet), the estate enjoys pristine Himalayan climate conditions, producing incredibly distinctive and fragrant teas. KTERC remains a model social enterprise, operating on cooperative infrastructure and prioritizing people and the environment over profit.

Anyone seeking a low-caffeine, light loose-leaf green tea, will love our Ganesha Green. This tea is likely to be appreciated and enjoyed by those who adore fine Chinese Longjing, also known as Dragonwell tea, Japanese Grokuro (shaded green tea), and matcha. But anyone may become a green tea enthusiast because of the distinct buttery sweet aromas.
