Silver needles are the least processed of all teas, with virtually no processing at all. The simplicity of the process belies the precise timing and care required to pluck the buds from special bushes, making silver needles one of the most expensive and prized teas. Our silver needles are made from very young bushes, less than 50 years old, which gives them a unique, fresh, floral flavor that is unmatched. Only the fine unopened buds, with no leaves, are hand-plucked and allowed to dry naturally. The moisture slowly evaporates, leaving behind shiny silver buds with fine hairs called trichomes surrounding them. Since the buds are not fully grown into leaves, silver needles have more trichomes than other teas. Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center Pvt. Ltd. (KTERC) is the first certified organic tea garden in Nepal. It was founded in 1984 by Mr. Deepak Prakash Baskota to lift his community out of poverty.
