The creation of Kanchanjangha Verde; an organic green tea, started as a dedication to Dhan Bahadur, our factory driver of over two decades. As one of the original green teas made in Nepal, this tea holds special meaning for us regarding the strength of dedication and desire. When he was younger, Dhan Bahadur had a strong interest in driving, and he still gets pleasure from taking our truck on the twisting, treacherous, and rusty roads that scare other people.

Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis)

The method used to produce Kanchanjangha Verde is strikingly similar to that of a traditional Darjeeling Hills green tea. Early in the 1990s, we had tea manufacturers from Darjeeling who assisted us in refining this production process. The meticulously hand-picked tea leaves are transported into the factory and given a very short period to rest before being heated immediately in the dryer. This is an essential step to stop any potential oxidation process. After that, the partially dried teas are placed in a rolling machine, which first cracks the leaves' cell walls to liberate their essential oils.

In contrast to other bulk green teas, rolled teas are given time to rest before being eventually re-dried at the height of their fragrance. Following a crushing procedure, the teas are sorted using three separate machines. This facilitates the process of separating the flaky and stemmed tea leaves, collecting only the finest portions of the leaves, and grading them based on size. After that, it is manually sifted, and different grades of the same tea are produced.

Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd (KTERC), Nepal’s first certified organic tea garden, was founded in 1984 by Mr. Deepak Prakash Baskota with the mission to eliminate poverty in his neighborhood. Located in the eastern region of Nepal, nestled in the foothills of Mt. Kanchanjangha, the third-highest mountain in the world, our tea estate thrives.
Our modest community sits between the renowned tea-growing region of Illam to the north and the western borders of Darjeeling, India, benefiting from the best of both worlds. At altitudes between 1300 and 1800 meters (4,200 and 6,000 feet), the estate enjoys pristine Himalayan climate conditions, producing incredibly distinctive and fragrant teas. KTERC remains a model social enterprise, operating on cooperative infrastructure and prioritizing people and the environment over profit.

If you've never had green tea before, this organic bulk green tea is the ideal place to start. It is a mild, silky brew with subtle overtones of sweet fruit and vegetables. Furthermore, because of its meticulous and somewhat oxidative production procedure, this loose-leaf green tea can tolerate a somewhat higher temperature than other green teas in general. This bulk green tea is loose-leaf and will probably appeal to those who appreciate roasted green teas, such as Japanese sencha.
