Feb 2022

What's happening with Nepal Tea USA?

As I mentioned in our previous newsletter. we want to set ourselves up to a higher standard of doing business with clear intention. One of the foremost goals for 2022 was to convert to a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) to not just claim we are a social enterprise or a company focused on social impact but to really walk the talk. We’re excited to announce that we are officially a Public Benefit Corporation as of January 7th!

Also, Nishchal and I had a chance to meet Seth Goldman, the founder of Honest Tea. The first book that I read after I joined the tea industry was Mission in a Bottle, therefore it was pretty exciting for me to meet him in person. It is great to see him leading the “Eat the Change” movement to make better food for people and the planet.

Virtual Tea Tasting: Expand your relationship with tea, tisane, health, and nature

We have always been an advocate of bridging the gap between primary producers and ultimate consumers since our inception. With that in mind, we started hosting virtual tea tasting sessions featuring one of the producers every month since October last year. The virtual tea tasting has been a hit and we have been receiving great responses and feedback from both our customers as well as our producers. Our customers who have been drinking our teas for years can finally talk and chat with the person that made it possible for them to enjoy the tea. While our producers who have been producing teas for 20+ years can finally see the people who drink their tea. It has been a heartwarming experience for Nishchal and me to connect people from two different parts of the globe.

This month we are switching things up and are bringing a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Sudikchya Baskota. She’s going to talk all about Hibiscus during this American Heart Month, a time when all people can focus on their cardiovascular health. Please use the link if you would like to be a part of the virtual tea tasting event this Feb 27th.

What's happening in Nepal and at the farm?

Two of our team members contracted COVID in mid-January and had serious symptoms for three weeks. It was a concerning few weeks for all of us, however, both Ritu and Sanskar have recovered and are doing well.

Yacon Production has been successfully completed at the farm. We are working on light maintenance of the factory before the tea production season starts. Our team in the garden is working on light pruning of the tea bushes throughout this month as well. Also, we are planning to plant about 10,000+ tea bushes in the garden. I will keep you updated on that in the coming months.

Where to find us?

Please do let me know if you will be attending any of these events. It would be great to connect with you in person.
