Aug 2025
I hope all is well with you. Last month has been quite an eventful month for us, busy with all the planning and execution of the Northeast Tea Festival and, on a personal note, with Nish, one of my co-founders, making the exciting transition from being a tea guy to becoming a dad.
What’s happening recently at Nepal Tea Collective?
North East Tea Festival
I am super excited to share that we successfully planned and executed the Northeast Tea Festival! Kudos to Sakar and the entire Nepal team who managed everything from miles away, and to my team here in the US for pulling it off so smoothly.
A special shoutout to Meg from MEM Tea, Cindi from Simpson & Vail, and Victoria from Cambridge Naturals, our team couldn’t have done this without your support.
We welcomed over 800 attendees throughout the event and hosted 23 vendors, each showcasing incredible teas from diverse origins. Since this was the very first tea festival hosted by Nepal Tea Collective, there was definitely a learning curve, and we’re excited to improve on it next year.
Interestingly, what I thought would be the biggest challenge, electricity, turned out to be the least of our problems. The real challenge was crowd control and managing expectations, as nearly half the ticket holders arrived right at 10 a.m. sharp. We’re deeply grateful for the overwhelming support from tea lovers in Boston. This experience has already inspired us to plan for a bigger venue next year to better accommodate the growing crowd.

Welcome to the Collective, Nora!
Nish is officially on parental leave, and I’m thrilled to welcome my little sister who happens to be 30 years younger than me into this world! As many of you know, Nish and I are the “uncle-and-nephew duo,” even though we’re only a few years apart in age.
I’m beyond happy for Nish and Nishu as they welcome their baby girl into a world full of teas from so many different origins. I can’t wait to play the role of big brother, introducing her to amazing teas from around the world and sharing new flavors with her as she grows.
Producer Competition
We have been actively participating in the Leafies, AVPA Paris, Golden Leaf Awards, and Global Tea Championship for years now. Nish and I would cup teas from our existing portfolio and submit them to these competitions, and over the years we’ve collected several medals.
This year, however, we wanted to do something different. Led by my team member Arya, we are organizing our own competition in Nepal with all of the producers we work with. We’ve asked them to send us samples in four different categories, and we’ll be selecting the top five teas to submit to these international competitions. If the winning teas are not already in our portfolio giving producers greater visibility on the global stage. I will keep you posted on the next updates on who wins.

What's happening at the farm in Nepal?
Production is still ongoing, and we are currently making some amazing black teas to fulfill our European orders. The tea season will be coming to an end in the next few months, so we are stocking up on some of our best sellers. The leaf production from the area we deep-skiffed 2.5 years ago and lightly pruned last year is now yielding high-quality leaf production. This year the weather hasn't been erratic and we haven't faced any issues on the production side of things.

We are, however, gearing up for ginger, turmeric, lemongrass, and cardamom production and other herbs and spices, as the planting season is approaching. Last year, we ran out of stock of most of these herbs and spices, so this year we are planning to increase production capacity. I am actually heading back to Nepal in two months to be there during the planting and production of these herbs and spices.
